It’s all in the jeans

Printed, colour-clashing, metallic, embellished or striped – statement jeans are this season’s key piece. Masculine tailoring has been the look du jour for a while, but this direction is fresh and transcends age and body shape. Take your cues from the fashion pack and go directly to the experts: Levi Strauss & Co. The brand revolutionised denim in the 1960s with its figure flattering silhouettes and perfect fits. Renowned for casual off-duty style and a diverse colour palette, the label offers timeless designs that are truly covetable. A mix of traditional cuts and contemporary detailing is the hallmark of the brand: the perfect combination for denim addicts and jeans fanatics.

In February this year Levi showcased its key autumn/winter 2012 collections at New York Fashion Week for the first time, giving the ordinary pair of jeans a much needed contemporary twist in the fashion world. The popular image of denim’s rough-and-tumble workwear heritage has been consigned to the past, with designers showcasing the fabric in a number of different guises. Vibrant jewel and pastel tones summed up two of the major colour palettes, while jeans adorned with futuristic and vintage elements played a key role on the catwalks. As for spray-on jean-leggings, also known as ‘jeggings’, the skin- tight style was presented in an array of texture-rich finishes, a key look being leather-effect denim with a hint of shimmering glitter.

The best way to style your Levi jeans is to give a firm nod to one of this season’s hottest trends: trophy knits. Wool Week kicked off earlier this month: the annual celebration of the on-going Campaign for Wool initiative headed up by the Prince of Wales. Launched in 2010 to promote British-made woollen garments and support the wool industry, this year’s campaign saw statement knits being rolled out across the catwalks to great acclaim.

However, if a more polished look is required, a tuxedo jacket is the answer. The tailored tux is a wardrobe staple. Wear with skinny jeans and a lacy tank for the most modern take, or mix up the look with a soft marl T-shirt and gilded accessories. In other words, simply pick a pair of jeans and let the outfit follow.
